If you have visited Atlas Tube’s website or read up on our literature recently, you may have noticed an interesting structure that we’ve showcased that was made from HSS. That structure is the Skydance Bridge.

The Skydance bridge is located just off Interstate 40 near downtown Oklahoma City (close to where the Oklahoma City Thunder call home). The pedestrian bridge, which took three years to design and six months to fabricate, was built to connect the up-and-coming Oklahoma River Area with downtown after a portion of Interstate 40 was relocated.

The bridge is a stunner to look at – especially at night. The design team modeled the bridge after Oklahoma’s state bird, the scissor-tailed flycatcher. When the Flycatcher is courting, it performs a sky dance which includes wild acrobatics, including a reverse somersault! In the day, the bridge towers over cars as they drive underneath it. By night, it lights up with LED lights in a multitude of colors, welcoming visitors warmly to downtown.
