5 Reasons Jumbo HSS are an Excellent Option for structures with Large Load demands

on January 30, 2013

Jumbo hollow structural sections are an excellent option for solving complex design challenges for structures with large load demands, e.g., structures in high seismic areas.

Here are five reasons Jumbo HSS are an excellent option for structures with large load demands:

  1. Superior and cost-effective alternative to open sections and built-up, welded box sections
  2. Improved functional performance and design flexibility
  3. Sizes meet ASTM A500, CSA G40 & ASTM A1085 industry standards
  4. Suitable for use in seismic load resisting systems
  5. Less surface area

We’re happy to expand our Jumbo HSS line to now offer our customers more options and sizes to best suit their specific uses and projects. Currently, Jumbo HSS comes in a wide range of weights and dimensions. Atlas already offers Jumbo HSS in wall thicknesses of .500″ to .875″. Now, we’ll also offer 18″ and 20″ square Jumbo HSS in a wall thickness of .375″.

Uses for Jumbo HSS include vertical column and diagonal bracing applications, as well as members of large, long-span trusses.
