HSS Design Tools now available for research and technical assistance
The technical activities of CIDECT have centered on the following research aspects of hollow steel section design:
- Buckling behaviour of empty and concrete filled columns.
- Effective buckling lengths of members in trusses.
- Fire resistance of concrete-filled columns.
- Static strength of welded and bolted joints.
- Fatigue resistance of joints.
- Aerodynamic properties.
- Bending Strength.
- Corrosion resistance.
- Workshop fabrication.
The results of CIDECT research form the basis of many national and international design requirements for hollow steel sections.
Much current CIDECT research activity is targeted at completing the body of knowledge which surrounds the structural behaviour of steel Structural Hollow Sections, and at interpreting and implementing this fundamental research. A new phase of research has now opened which is directly concerned with providing practical, economical and labour saving design solutions.
Atlas Tube, in cooperation with CIDECT, has made available its research papers, cases studies and many other technical resources.
CIDECT is an international association of leading manufacturers of hollow sections and pipes whose objective is to expand knowledge, by means of research and studies, of steel hollow sections and their application in steel construction and engineering.
