Pile Type Comparison Table

on January 22, 2014

Piling industry experts know how difficult it is to make blanket statements about the applicability of different driven pile types. This difficulty notwithstanding, a driven-pile design specialist has provided a resource intended to shed light on this question.

The table below presents an overview of the general applicability of the more-common driven pile types. Because of differences in many details between projects, this table is not definitive or all-inclusive. It does, however, provide an overview comparison of driven pile types and their applications.

As a reminder, any project with over 200 piles should consider having a test program run to compare products and possible savings for the owner. Many times a combination of products matching up the structural loads to the piles is the best solution.
